What being a vet is all about

"Your so lucky to cuddle puppies and kittens all day"

Once you decide that you are studying veterinary medicine, this is what people think you do every day, all day.

What my friends think I do all day

What people think I do all day

While we do work with baby animals, which is definitely a highlight, we also work with all ages of animals and all problems. From vaccines to surgery, we do it all. No matter what your furry family member needs, vets are there to help you. One of the joys of the veterinary profession is the versatility of the job.

What my Mom thinks I do all day

My family has the greatest confidence in me. They are my biggest support system and I couldn't be happier that they are behind me. However, I sometimes think that they think I am smarter than I really am. My mom thinks I can do some amazing things. Even though I have been banned from talking about work at the dinner table, I know that my family thinks I have a great job.

What I actually do all day

This picture was taken while I was on clinics a couple summers ago. There are more of these moments that don't have pictures to tell the story. Cleaning up messes became second nature. Sometimes the mess came out the front, sometimes it came out the back. So as you can see, this is far from cuddling puppies all day.

Now despite all these things, I love veterinary medicine. All the mess, all the animals trying to bite me, and all the stressful situations are so worth it. All I had to do was save one and I realised I wanted to try to save all the animals for the rest of my life. I couldn't be happier with this profession I have going, despite all the times I come home from work and have to jump directly in the shower.
